Kate Middleton is best-known for her relationship with Prince William, whom she met while attending the University of St. Andrews in 2001. Born January 8, 1982, she is the oldest daughter of party supply company owners Michael and Carole.
The one-time Jigsaw accessories buyer began dating William, son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, in December 2003, though they were not photographed together publicly until a skiing trip in Klosters the following April. As a result of the increased media attention, Middleton received her own 24-hour security detail supplied by the Royalty and Diplomatic Protection Department.
In April 2007, the couple briefly split up before reconciling later that summer. The following year, Middleton accompanied William when he was awarded his RAF wings at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell. She also attended his investiture into the Order of the Garter with the Royal Family.
In November 2010, William proposed to Middleton during a rustic vacation in Kenya. The couple, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, tied the knot on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey. Middleton announced her first pregnancy in December 2012.
